Driving Passion: TeamAsia Town Hall 2017

By Hapy Benitez

Last February 3, TeamAsians gathered in Launchpad Coworking, Alabang for a catch-up afternoon also known as our Town Hall.

Launchpad Coworking’s wall of encouragement.

It was my first time attending a Town Hall of any kind, and as such, I looked forward to it. For this year-starter event, TeamAsia opted for a venue with a laid-back vibe (for which our own office is known for!). The Town Hall unofficially opened with refreshments. We were served a satisfying combo of burger and potato chips with iced tea—not to mention the popcorn and gummy bears free for the taking on each table. I must admit: for me, that set the good mood right off the bat.

When the official program began, TeamAsians were given an energetic welcome by Marketing and Accounts Director Denise Limon. She kicked it off by calling on the new members of the family and having them introduce themselves the TeamAsian way—by name butt-spell or talent presentation. You can just imagine the awkwardness of it all, but it was hilarious all the way through!

2017 is indeed a remarkable year for TeamAsia because we will be celebrating our 25th year anniversary in May. And to kick off this celebration, our Managing Director, Bea Lim, unveiled this year’s theme: “25 Years Driven by Passion”.

TeamAsia Managing Director Bea Lim launches #OurSuper25.

To underwrite this mantra, a guest speaker, Sam Pimentel, shared with us important principles on passion and overcoming difficulties. Being the first Filipina to conquer the North Pole, Sam knows how passion plays a big part in winning against struggles to achieve your goals. She shared with us her rigorous training before joining the last degree ski expedition to the North Pole and the harsh environment she and the other hikers went through to reach their destination.

At the heart of it all, there are two things I learned from Sam:

1.      Never take your eyes off your end goal

2.       Finish what you started

“If you believe that you can do it, you will find solutions to overcome the problems.” – Sam Pimentel on conquering the North Pole.

For TeamAsia, 2017 is the Year of Passion. That is why one of the highlights of the Town Hall was the Directors’ announcement of each department’s plans. Coming from the year where TeamAsians were challenged to “Think Big”, there really is no way to go but up. It really excited me to learn that so much is in store for us in the coming months—new projects, weirdly-named innovations (such as one of my favorites, the “Project Baby Monitor”), and new territories to foray.

Each of us has something we are passionate about. They may be the little things in life, or the big dreams we want to attain. Nonetheless, they motivate us to get out of bed and work hard each day.

Before she closed the Town Hall, there was one thing that Ma’am Monette Iturralde-Hamlin said that struck a chord in me. After observing what we had written on the big 25 standee that has been displayed in our lobby for weeks now, she discovered something interesting: most of us had written not just what, but who makes us passionate. Ma’am Monette gave us something to ponder when she made us realize that we do not need to look far to find our motivation—because we draw it from the people who are close to our hearts.

TeamAsia CEO Monette Iturralde-Hamlin gives her closing remarks and a thought for TeamAsians to ponder.

For me, each day is fueled by the comforting thought that I can end it with my family and a good book. This makes me passionate to deliver the best that I can for each day so I can go home in peace, knowing that I can have tomorrow worry about itself.

How about you? What are you passionate about?

MAHat3: Father of TeamAsia Celebrates His 3rd Birthday in Heaven

via Love in Pictures | Monette Hamlin.

Three years ago, we lost the father of TeamAsia. March 9, 2013 is a day none of us will forget, a day filled with immense sadness as we said goodbye to Michael Alan Hamlin, a second father for us here in the company.

MAHat3

But though we still grieve his loss, we continue to be grateful that we met someone as wonderful as Sir Mike, or MAH as some would endearingly call him. Through an intimate mass celebrated with TeamAsia employees and officers, everyone remembered the greatness of MAH and his passion for life, family, and work.

remembering MAH

Not a day goes by without us remembering MAH, our mentor, leader, and friend. But the loss of Sir Mike is best articulated by our president, his partner, his wife, Ma’am Monette. Through her blog post Love in Pictures, Ma’am Monette shares the story behind the caricatures and movie posters that are lovingly displayed in the office of TeamAsia.

TA Goes to The Chosen Children Village

By J Darell M. Sapin, Web Development Supervisor

TA Goes to the Chosen Children Village

The marker that welcomes visitors to Chosen Children Village Foundation in Lalaan II, Silang, Cavite

It is always better to give than to receive – that has always been true to me since I started giving Christmas gifts to my godchildren. It just warms my heart to see the little angels’ faces light up.

It all started last July 2014 when our IT and Web Director, Jeff Enriquez and I talked about conducting our own CSR.  The first one I thought of was the Chosen Children Village Foundation (CCVF) since it has been very close to my heart since my first visit four years ago.

Last December 21, 2015, we gathered 20 boxes of donated Milk Magic products and set out for the Chosen Children Village Foundation (CCVF) in Lalaan II, Silang, Cavite.  AC and Marvin from the IT and Web Department, as well as Zyra, Ayen, and Teresa from the Experience Department accompanied me on the trip. We were greeted by the cool and refreshing climate of the place. It was entirely different from the hot weather in Alabang. We were given a brief background on how CCVF came to be and the success stories that have happened in the village. One of our new found friends, Charlie, suffered from hydrocephalus and a walking disorder as a child, but is now healthy and able to walk without crutches.

CCVF is a non-profit organization that aspires to provide a permanent home for abandoned, neglected, and surrendered children / adults who are mentally and physically challenged. For security purposes, we were not allowed to take solo pictures of the children. CCVF admits that the foundation provides early intervention to children between one to nine months old and those who cope with multifaceted delays. Through its adoption program, CCVF places children in permanent homes locally and even internationally. Children who don’t get adopted grow up in the village and are trained at The School for Chosen Children to maximize their potential to become productive members of society.

As our donations were unloaded, we were warmly greeted by Ms. Che Naval and her colleagues, the teens and young adults of CCVF as well.

We played a few games with them, namely basketball and volleyball. The CCVF team was very happy, and so were we.

We were then given an hour to freshen up before dinner time. While we waited for dinner, TeamAsia visited the children in the different cottages within the village.

A bell rang that meant dinner was ready. We proceeded to the dining hall where we were greeted by the children. We saw the boxes of Milk Magic beside the gifts under the Christmas tree.

CCVF welcomed us and thanked us for our help in ensuring the continuity of the foundation.

The children prepared a short song and dance number to show their appreciation for the support that TeamAsia has given. It was so much fun that even our very own AC and Ayen joined in their performance!

It was a heartwarming experience to spread the love and joy of giving back to our community. In her welcome speech, Ms. Che mentioned that hopefully our visit will not be the last. We went home feeling fulfilled knowing that we are not just a world class integrated marketing communications company but also a champion of CSR.

Hope you enjoyed reading our experience. For the full album, you can see it here. To know more about CCVF, you can check it out here.

Internship 101: It’s more fun in TeamAsia!

By: Ailey Belardo and Nicole Abalena (Marketing and Accounts Interns)

People tend to say that internship sucks, but why is that? Maybe because they had the most crappy and boring internship experience. But guess what! We proved them wrong. There’s a lot of questions in mind about this team. Is it amazing? Yes. How about fun? Check. Bright people? Definitely check. And that is TeamAsia, built with bright people who create amazing stories that exceeds people’s expectations.

Internship 101

In our pretty little stay here in TeamAsia, we came up with a list of the things we learned and discovered:

  1. Tick tock! The clock is running

Pretty sure that everyone knows the saying “Time is Gold”. But in reality, it’s actually more than gold (if there’s such a thing). There’s a big difference in managing time between being a student and an employee. Remember, the way you handle time also reflects on what kind of person you are.

  1. A big no-no to bum time

Let’s face it, there comes a time where we just want to bum around, do nothing and just stare at the ceiling. But hey, being productive is not a bad thing. We’ve learned that bumming around will do no good. You gotta werk those mind muscles out of your system and relax because it will always be worth it.

  1. New experiences, new discoveries

From events, to meetings, to random errands (to ingress and egress), we’ve encountered and interacted with different people from different industries. Being capable of new things that sooner or later will help us out in the real world.

  1. When in doubt, eat it out!

Let’s be honest, food makes everything better. Having a crappy day? Just go out and grab something sweet. Or a cup of an ice cold coffee will do. Stressed? Pressured? Remember that Fastbytes is just around the corner. *wink*

  1. Ring ring! Dont let the bees wait

Three A’s. Be alert, attentive and awake. These are the things that everyone has to comprehend when you’re in a company. Never let them wait because it could mean an opportunity lost in a missed call. Be quick and pick up the phone!

  1. Squeeze out the creative juices

Even though we’re just interns, there were times where we were given the opportunity to squeeze all the ideas and bring out the inner artsy and marketer in us.

  1.    Co-workers are pretty much your best buddies

They’re the ones you spend most of your time with, five days a week. They’re the people that you could spend your happy hours with and even the most stressful days at work. Your co-workers make your workdays fly by, you won’t even notice it!

As the saying goes, “When life gives you lemons, make lemonade.” We say no. When life gives you lemons, make pineapple juice and leave the world wondering how you did it. That for us is what Teamasia does. This company surprises us with such amazing things that you won’t even know what’s in store for all of us.

Internship 101_2

We’ve learned so much from our stay here in this company. Being able to work and interact with such an amazing team, to experience different kinds of events, go to places and learn from the professionals. These people taught and made us feel what it’s like in the real world and we really do look up to them now. Waking up and going to work early was all worth it when you’re surrounded by people who spread positive vibes. Plus, they treat us like a real family. At the end of the day, it’s the people that made our stay here worthwhile. Because all in all, it was really one hell of a ride.
